The campaign and DMZ opened early for some players, and Infinity Ward unlocked multiplayer overnight ahead of schedule, though early feedback on that mode has been rough.

The short version
- Modern Warfare 4 is live worldwide, with every mode now open to everyone.
- Infinity Ward switched on competitive multiplayer earlier than expected overnight.
- Push Square says early multiplayer feedback has been brutal, and DMZ players are split over PvE and PvP.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is officially out for everyone. Xbox says the game is now live worldwide, which puts an end to a launch that's been dribbling out in pieces.
Here's how it went. The campaign unlocked for some players last week, and the extraction mode DMZ opened for others on Tuesday. Infinity Ward then opened up the competitive multiplayer suite earlier than expected overnight, so the full game is playable now.
Pure Xbox summed up the end of the staggered access with "No more Early Access shenanigans, it's full game time, baby!" The outlet also said DMZ "looks top-notch."
Not everyone's celebrating. Push Square reports that early multiplayer feedback has been brutal so far, leading its story with the player complaint "Worst Call of Duty ever". Push Square hasn't published its own review yet and says that's coming in the coming days.
DMZ is already stirring up a familiar argument, too. Destructoid reports that players of the new extraction mode are torn between PvE and PvP.
If you're jumping in, Xbox is pointing everyone toward Kill Block. It's a multiplayer environment set inside the West Bridge Advanced Military Training Facility, built from shifting, modular battlegrounds with hundreds of unique configurations. Xbox calls it a must-play at launch.
Push Square's review should land over the next few days.
What we don’t know yet
- Infinity Ward hasn't said whether it will respond to the early multiplayer criticism with changes.
- It isn't clear how DMZ will handle the split between PvE and PvP players.
- Push Square's review hasn't been published yet.
