The short version

  1. Update 2.5 is out now and free, with an Edgerunners 2 side quest featuring the show's voice actors.
  2. A new Double Trouble perk lets you dual-wield pistols and revolvers.
  3. Cross-platform mods hit consoles, with Switch 2 getting the patch in the days after.

Cyberpunk 2077 just got its Edgerunners 2 Update, and it's a big one. Update 2.5 is free and landed on October 22, a couple of days after the second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners premiered on Netflix on October 20.

The anime tie-in content includes a new side quest featuring voice actors from the show, a gear set based on the character Weak Kingsley, and a new radio station that plays Edgerunners music.

You don't need to have watched the show to get something out of this, though. A new Double Trouble perk option lets you dual-wield pistols and revolvers, which is the kind of thing a lot of players have wanted for Night City since launch.

There's also a second new side quest, a tour of the city guided by Richard Night, plus cyberware customization. Rock Paper Shotgun's headline puts it as the ability to pimp your mantis blades.

GamingOnLinux also points to tech upgrades, including better HDR and improved modding.

Mods on PS5, Xbox and Switch 2

The biggest change for console players is cross-platform mod support, which brings mods to PS5, Xbox and Switch 2.

Switch 2 owners get the full update, mod support included, but not on day one. CD Projekt Red says the Switch 2 patch will arrive "in the days to follow" rather than alongside the Xbox and PlayStation versions.

Pure Xbox also reports Cyberpunk 2077 has joined the Xbox Play Anywhere initiative.

PC modders have already started pushing the new dual-wielding further. Rock Paper Shotgun reports a mod opens it up to shotguns, assault rifles and sniper rifles, if you're fine with things getting "janky and wildly overpowered".

What we don’t know yet

  • CD Projekt Red hasn't given an exact date for the Switch 2 version of Update 2.5.
  • It isn't clear how many mods will be available on consoles or how they'll be curated.
