Reading the meter…
Players
Average daily peak players, the last 3 days vs. the 3 before. Games under 2,000 players are left out so small numbers don't swing wildly.
Players
Games whose latest daily peak is at least 1.5 times their own average over the past 30 days. Something is happening: an update, a sale, a streamer, a free weekend.
No spikes right now. Every tracked game is within its normal range.
Players vs. press
What gaming news talks about isn't always what people are playing. Higher means more outlets covered the game in the last 30 days; further right means more players on Steam.
Release dates
Every release date we've seen pushed back, from store pages and reporting. A date getting more precise inside its window (December to December 9) isn't a delay.
Player numbers are each game's daily peak concurrent players from Steam's public most-played chart, which covers the top 50 games on Steam. Console players, other PC stores and games outside the top 50 aren't counted, so a game falling off the chart drops out of the comparisons. Coverage counts distinct news sources our newsroom tracks, not individual articles, so one story syndicated ten times counts once per outlet. Delays are release dates that were replaced by a later date, from the store page or from reporting; each links its source. A story listed next to a player change is our latest coverage of that game, not a claim about what caused the change.
No game has slipped twice in the last 12 months. Yet.
