Knightmare is getting a video game. A free, officially licensed game based on the classic UK children's TV show is in development, Video Games Chronicle reports.
It's a point-and-click game, and it includes voice acting by the original cast. That's the detail that'll get anyone who grew up with the show leaning in.
If you never caught it, Knightmare ran on ITV from 1987 to 1994. Teams of four children tried to guide one of their own through a dungeon packed with hazards.
That contestant was the 'Dungeoneer', and they explored a dungeon generated with a bluescreen, built from a mix of CG and hand-drawn art.
The twist was the helmet. The Dungeoneer wore a large one that made it impossible to see anything except what was directly below them, which let them pick things up from a table, for example. Their teammates had to talk them through everything else.
A point-and-click format seems like a natural fit for a show that was already about directing someone through rooms and puzzles from the outside.
There's no word yet on who's making it, which platforms it's coming to, or when it'll be out. For now, the big news is that it exists, it's licensed, and it won't cost you anything.
What we don’t know yet
- The developer behind the game hasn't been named.
- No release date has been announced.
- Platforms haven't been confirmed.
- It isn't clear which original cast members are involved.
