The short version

  1. New Game+ is here, carrying over your unlocks and upgrades.
  2. Nightmare difficulty and new easter eggs are in too.
  3. This is the last major content update; smaller fixes will keep coming.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is getting its last major update, and it finally adds New Game+. Version 1.0.8 is rolling out today on all formats.

If you've already sailed through the story, you can now start over with all your previous unlocks and upgrades carried across. That's the big one, and it's been a long time coming for players who wanted a reason to set sail again.

It's not the only addition. The update also brings a new Nightmare difficulty, for anyone who thinks Edward's adventure has been going a little too smoothly, plus new easter eggs to hunt down.

Ubisoft says this is the final major title update that adds new content to the game. That doesn't mean support is ending entirely: smaller quality-of-life patches are still planned to fix bugs and other issues.

Eurogamer described the update as massive and said it arrives after a period of quiet and a few small updates. The outlet also called New Game Plus long-awaited, and said the patch includes some long-requested features.

Ubisoft hasn't said how the new difficulty changes combat or enemies, and the full list of additions beyond the headline features hasn't been broken down here. There's also no word on how long the smaller bug-fix patches will keep arriving.

What we don’t know yet

  • What exactly Nightmare difficulty changes hasn't been detailed.
  • How long smaller quality-of-life patches will continue hasn't been said.
  • What the new easter eggs involve hasn't been revealed.
