Chronicles: Medieval studio Raw Power Games warns it may close after losing funding
The Copenhagen-based team says Early Access is within reach, but the money behind the studio is gone and it's fighting to stay open.
The short version
- Raw Power Games says its funding is "no longer in place."
- The studio says it's at real risk of closing before Chronicles: Medieval hits Early Access.
- Development can't continue without new money, but the team says it isn't giving up.
Raw Power Games, the studio behind medieval open-world action/strategy sandbox Chronicles: Medieval, says it could shut down before the game ever reaches Early Access. The reason is simple and brutal: its funding is gone.
In a message posted on X, the studio laid it out without hedging. "Due to circumstances outside our control, the necessary funding behind Raw Power Games is no longer in place," Raw Power wrote. "Without it we can't keep building Chronicles: Medieval, and right now the studio is at real risk of closing."
Raw Power hasn't said what those circumstances were or who had been backing the studio.
The timing is what stings most, according to the team. "What makes it hurt is how close we are," the message said. "Early Access is within reach."
The studio also singled out its staff, who work in Copenhagen and remotely, saying they've often gone "far beyond what anyone asked of them" and are now "carrying the heaviest weight right now."
Chronicles: Medieval drew plenty of attention when it was revealed at Summer Game Fest 2025 with an announcement trailer narrated by Tom Hardy. That trailer has passed 2 million views on IGN's YouTube channel.
Raw Power didn't announce a plan for finding new money, and there's no word on what happens to the game if the studio does close. For now, the team says it doesn't know how this ends, but "in the spirit of our game we're not going down without a fight!"
What we don’t know yet
- Raw Power Games hasn't explained what caused its funding to fall through.
- It's unclear whether the studio is pursuing new investors or other funding.
- There's no Early Access date for Chronicles: Medieval.
- The studio hasn't said what would happen to the game if it closes.
