The short version
- Blood and Ice is a free expansion launching December 1.
- It takes you to Arrakis' frozen north.
- Funcom's roadmap also lists new events and offline single-player.
Dune: Awakening is getting a free expansion called Blood and Ice, and it launches December 1.
Funcom revealed the expansion alongside a look at what's coming over the next three to four months. The setting is the eye-catcher: Blood and Ice takes players to Arrakis' frozen north.
That's a fun twist for a game set on a planet best known for endless sand. Funcom hasn't spelled out what's waiting up there, whether that's new creatures, gear or survival mechanics built around the cold.
Free matters here too. You won't have to pay to get to the new region, so anyone who already owns the game gets it.
The bigger surprise might be on the roadmap. Funcom says offline single-player is part of its plans for the coming months, along with new events.
If you've wanted to explore Arrakis without dealing with other players or server issues, that's the news to keep an eye on. Funcom hasn't given a specific date for the offline mode yet, only that it falls within that three-to-four-month window.
For now, the date to circle is December 1.
What we don’t know yet
- Funcom hasn't detailed what new content, systems or enemies Blood and Ice adds.
- There's no specific release date yet for offline single-player.
- What the new events involve hasn't been shared.
