The short version

  1. Nintendo has restocked the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 ahead of the Ocarina of Time remake.
  2. Some Target pre-orders reportedly won't arrive until mid-November.
  3. Polygon says the console hides an Ocarina of Time Easter egg in its hardware.

Nintendo has restocked the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2, Polygon reports, just ahead of the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake.

The Zelda-themed console is out in stores this week. Getting one hasn't been smooth for everyone, though.

Nintendo Life says there's been some last-minute pre-order drama around the system. Some people who pre-ordered from Target are supposedly being told their orders won't arrive until the middle of November.

Walmart is reportedly pointing to a "supply chain delay" that's keeping select stores from selling the hardware until next month, according to Nintendo Life. Neither retailer's explanation has been detailed further.

So if your pre-order confirmation suddenly looks a lot less certain, you're not the only one.

There's at least one fun reason to keep chasing it. Polygon reports that the new consoles quietly hide a hardware Easter egg that pays homage to Ocarina of Time. Polygon's headline calls it a "Perfect 'Zelda' Homage", though it's a detail best seen for yourself.

Nintendo hasn't said how large the restock is or which retailers are getting units.

What we don’t know yet

  • How many consoles Nintendo included in the restock.
  • Exactly which Walmart stores are affected by the reported delay.
  • Whether Target's mid-November delivery estimate applies to all affected orders.
