The short version

  1. The Verge reports the full name is The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.
  2. The title could be confirmed as soon as November, around Skyrim's 15th birthday.
  3. The same report puts the game in Hammerfell, with a story about the Elder Scrolls themselves.

The Elder Scrolls 6 reportedly has a name: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. That's according to The Verge's Tom Warren, who cites "sources familiar with Bethesda's plans" and says the official title could be announced as soon as next month.

The timing would line up with Skyrim's 15th anniversary on November 11. Yes, it really has been that long.

Don't expect a full showcase, though. Per The Verge's report, only the title is due to be revealed next month, with nothing new beyond that. After 15 years without a new mainline game, a name alone is a pretty modest reveal, but it would still be the first real movement since the game was announced back in 2018.

The report goes further than the name. It says Sentinel will be set in Hammerfell, a huge region southwest of Skyrim that players have already explored in The Elder Scrolls Online.

On the story side, The Verge says the RPG "will be the first game about the history of the Elder Scrolls," with players uncovering "the secrets of these mysterious ancient artifacts."

If the name sounds familiar, that's because the community already guessed it. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma teased the subtitle back in August after watching a live playthrough of the game, and fans figured out Sentinel from that. She also said the game's "scale and grandeur are incredible."

According to The Verge, Bethesda Game Studios has been showing gameplay internally in recent months. Most of the studio is currently working on the game.

Bethesda and Xbox haven't confirmed any of this. Sharma also hasn't said whether the game could be an Xbox console exclusive.

What we don’t know yet

  • Bethesda and Microsoft haven't officially confirmed the Sentinel title or the Hammerfell setting.
  • There's no release date or release window.
  • Platforms, including whether it will be an Xbox console exclusive, haven't been confirmed.
  • It's unclear how much, if anything, beyond the title will be shown next month.
