Final Fantasy 14: Evercold slips about a month to February 23, 2027

Final Fantasy 14: Evercold has been delayed. Square Enix confirmed the slip and set a new release date for the expansion: February 23rd, 2027.

The good news is that it isn't a long wait. Rock Paper Shotgun puts the delay at roughly a month, so if you'd already cleared your calendar, you're only pushing things back a few weeks.

Rock Paper Shotgun also pointed out that the new date lands close to the shift toward spring, which is a little funny for an expansion called Evercold. February is still winter, though, so the frosty vibe survives.

The news came out of the FFXIV Fan Fest in Japan, where the expansion and its Collector's Edition were both on the agenda. Rock Paper Shotgun reports the show also offered a look at Evercold's second new job, which it describes as avian-inclined.

Evercold carries a lot of expectations. Game director Yoshi-P has said the expansion will embrace change, and it follows Dawntrail, whose base content drew heavy criticism even though its post-MSQ content went over well.

That context makes a short delay easier to swallow. If an extra month helps Evercold land the change Yoshi-P is promising, most players will probably take it.

Square Enix hasn't publicly explained the reason for the delay.
