The short version

  1. Laufey moves from February 16, 2027 to May 20, 2027.
  2. Santa Monica Studio says the extra months go to polish.
  3. It's still a PS5 exclusive starring Deborah Ann Woll as Faye.

God of War Laufey has been delayed. Santa Monica Studio's Faye-led spinoff was due on February 16, 2027, and will now launch on May 20, 2027 on PS5.

That's a slip of about three months. The studio announced it on Twitter/X and framed it as a matter of polish rather than anything going wrong.

"We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential," the studio said.

It also thanked players for the response since the reveal: "Since the reveal of God of War Laufey in June, we've been deeply grateful to see so much excitement for Faye's journey through the Everywhen."

Laufey was announced at the end of June's State of Play, after leaks had pointed to a new God of War from the Ragnarok team. Eurogamer noted the new date also gets the game out of a crowded February.

If you've been following along, the basics haven't changed. Deborah Ann Woll stars as Faye, Kratos' wife and Atreus' mother, and The Boys actor Jack Quaid plays a gelatinous cube named Phranque. Yes, really.

Faye fights with more grace and agility than Kratos' brute force, but it's still third-person action built around chaining skills and weapons together. A new Kratos-led game is planned after Laufey, picking up where it leaves off.

The studio says it'll "be back to share more updates soon" but hasn't said what those will cover.

What we don’t know yet

  • Santa Monica Studio hasn't said whether any specific features or content prompted the delay.
  • There's no word on when the next update or showing will happen.
  • No release timing has been given for the Kratos-led follow-up.
