The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel is more than two years away, per Jason Schreier
Bethesda finally gave The Elder Scrolls 6 a name, Sentinel, but Bloomberg's Jason Schreier says you shouldn't expect to play it for more than two years.
The short version
- Jason Schreier says TES VI: Sentinel is "more than two years away."
- A separate Bethesda insider reportedly points to 2028 or later.
- Bethesda's official reveal was just a title and a short teaser.
The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel finally has a name, but if Bloomberg's Jason Schreier is right, you've got a long wait before you're actually playing it.
"TESVI: Sentinel is more than two years away," Schreier wrote on Reddit, as GameSpot reported. That's unofficial. Bethesda hasn't given a release date or window.
Schreier isn't alone. A Bethesda insider described as one of the most consistently reliable around reportedly has the game on track for a 2028 or later release. Again, that's a report, not a confirmation.
The timing tracks with how little Bethesda has shown. The official reveal this week confirmed the Sentinel title and came with a brief title card video of a scroll emerging from the sand, which hinted at Hammerfell as the setting. It's only the second TES 6 teaser to date.
Bethesda also told fans it will be "some time" before more is shared, so don't hold your breath for a gameplay trailer.
The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced more than eight years ago, and game director Todd Howard has openly second-guessed that decision. "I have asked myself that a lot," he said. "I don't know. I probably would've announced it more casually." He later joked: "Just pretend we didn't announce it. It doesn't exist. No one has heard a word."
Not everyone is taking the news quietly. PC Gamer reports that some fans are already floating theories that Bethesda is hinting at an earlier launch, and the outlet thinks a few of them are pretty good.
Whether Sentinel will be a console exclusive on Xbox is still an open question.
What we don’t know yet
- Bethesda hasn't announced a release date or window for Sentinel.
- It isn't confirmed whether Sentinel will be exclusive to Xbox on consoles.
- Hammerfell as the setting is hinted at by the teaser, not officially confirmed.
