The short version
- Behaviour Interactive has responded and apologized after a TheBurntPeanut stream drew community anger.
- The streamer was gifted access to Dead by Daylight's full roster of Survivors and Killers.
- Some players say they've uninstalled the game over it.
Behaviour Interactive has apologized after what looked like a Dead by Daylight collaboration with streamer TheBurntPeanut blew up in its community over Halloween weekend.
The trouble started when TheBurntPeanut, who got popular over the last year playing extraction shooters like Arc Raiders, jumped into Dead by Daylight for the first time on stream. During that Halloween stream, he revealed he'd been gifted access to the game's entire lineup of Survivors and Killers.
"Wow! Wow!" TheBurntPeanut said while scrolling through the instant unlocks. "Guys! I just got all the guys!"
That didn't land well with a lot of longtime players. Dead by Daylight starts you with a small selection of characters, and plenty of people who've stuck with the game through its 10 years have spent a long time building out their rosters.
Steam News describes the reaction as starting out relatively contained before turning into what it called a full-blown breaking point, with some players reporting that they've uninstalled the game after seeing the developers work with TheBurntPeanut. Polygon, which called the gift a controversial decision, also reported fans uninstalling in protest.
Insider Gaming reported that Behaviour has stepped up to address the situation, and IGN reported that the studio has responded to the backlash. The exact wording of the studio's apology and whether it plans any changes in how it works with streamers haven't been detailed in those reports.
What we don’t know yet
- The full wording of Behaviour Interactive's apology hasn't been detailed.
- It isn't clear whether the stream was a paid collaboration or just a gift of DLC access.
- Behaviour hasn't said whether it will change how it works with streamers.
