The short version

  1. A former lead game designer says Mob laid off almost the whole Escape From Playtime team.
  2. The layoffs hit roughly two weeks after the game launched on October 21, 2026.
  3. Escape From Playtime is still sticking around for now, according to Mob's community manager.

Mob Entertainment has laid off almost the entire team behind Escape From Playtime, according to a former lead game designer at the studio.

The designer shared the news in a LinkedIn post on November 4, 2026, and said they were among those affected. "Mob has laid off almost the entire Escape From Playtime team, including myself," they wrote.

They asked anyone who knows of work for them or their colleagues to reach out. "This industry is tough, but the people band together to help each other out. Today that help is needed."

The post also had words for the people still at the studio and those let go. "For my friends affected at Mob I'm sorry, we did an amazing job, and pushed out a fantastic game. Be proud of what we accomplished."

Escape From Playtime is an online survival co-op game for two to eight players, spun off from the Poppy Playtime horror franchise. Teams play as Smiling Critters plushes, scavenging for resources while avoiding monstrous mascots.

The game only came out on October 21, 2026, so the cuts landed about two weeks after launch. Understandably, that left players worried about whether it would keep getting support.

The game isn't going anywhere yet. Mob Entertainment community manager Tyler Scott Sanchez addressed the layoffs on the game's official Discord, confirming Escape From Playtime is sticking around, at least for now, and loosely hinting at what's next. Insider Gaming also reports that development on the game is continuing.

Mob Entertainment hasn't publicly said how many people lost their jobs or what future updates will look like with a much smaller team.

What we don’t know yet

  • Mob Entertainment hasn't said exactly how many staff were laid off.
  • It isn't clear what future updates or support Escape From Playtime will get.
  • Mob hasn't publicly explained the reason for the layoffs.
