The short version
- Forsaken is a free Halloween-themed update, out now on all platforms.
- Salvage haunted mementos and trade them for creepy, organic corvette modules and cosmetics.
- No Man's Sky also launched on iPhone and iPad, free to try on the App Store.
No Man's Sky has a new free update called Forsaken, and it's leaning hard into spooky season. Hello Games says it lets players explore the "darker side of the universe!"
It's out now on all platforms, and it arrives alongside the game's launch on iPad and iPhone. The iOS version includes all 40+ updates so far, Forsaken included on day one, and it's free to try on the App Store.
The core loop has you hunting for rare haunted tech and biological horrors. To find them, you'll be poking around the creepiest corners of the game: derelict hulks, abandoned freighters, dig sites on planets and infested outposts.
Those mementos have drawn in a crowd of enigmatic traders who want them for their collections. Trade with these collectors and you'll unlock new biomechanical corvette modules, which Hello Games describes as a way to lean into the "creepy and organic side of sleek sci-fi ships."
There are also new cockpits to find for ship building and a new interior set inspired by a distant galaxy. On the character side, IGN highlights cosmetics ranging from larva tank helmets to writhing, wormy multi-tools.
Not everything is themed. Forsaken adds a better radial menu, a minimal HUD option and a batch of other quality-of-life and accessibility settings. You can also now warp straight to any star you can see from your cockpit, which sounds like a lovely way to wander.
Eurogamer also reports the update brings delivery missions and what it calls "seamless" interstellar travel.
Forsaken lands just a month after Cosmos, the tenth-anniversary update that overhauled space with things like owning space stations and exploring space hulks. Destructoid counted 49 days between the two major updates. Full patch notes are available from Hello Games.
What we don’t know yet
- Hello Games hasn't said how long the Forsaken seasonal trading items will remain available.
- Pricing for the full iOS version beyond the free trial hasn't been detailed.
- Details of the delivery missions haven't been fully explained.
