Alien: Isolation 2 is getting a physical edition and a full photo mode

Alien: Isolation 2 is getting a physical edition. Sega and Creative Assembly confirmed it in a 17-minute Q&A video where the team answered fan questions about the survival horror sequel.

The developers framed the boxed release as part of the game's identity. "Staying true to the analogue nature of Alien is one of our pillars," they told Eurogamer.

There's still no firm release date, but the Q&A puts launch in 2027. Push Square points out the timing matters on PS5, since Sony will stop manufacturing games on disc in January 2028. That would make it the last window for a boxed PS5 version.

The game is also getting a photo mode, and the team is going all in. It aims to be "everything you expect from a camera," with depth of field, lighting options and filters that call back to the original films. The station was gorgeous to look at even while you were hiding in a locker, so this is a welcome addition.

The Q&A also teased a feature that uses your real-life microphone, though the team didn't explain how it works in the game.

Alien: Isolation 2 is set months after the first game. As the trailer showed, part of it takes place outside, and that changes how the Xenomorph hunts. It can use the wider environment and rough weather to its advantage, and without tight corridors you lose the usual cues for hearing or seeing it coming. That sounds properly nerve-wracking.

About a third of the original Isolation crew is working on the sequel. Lead game designer James Green called it a "dream project."

The game was announced in June. Sega and Creative Assembly haven't announced a specific launch date yet.
