The short version

  1. A YouTube account called 'P1REMAKE' posted just under two minutes of apparent Persona 1 remake footage.
  2. Atlus hasn't announced anything, and outlets warn the clip could be AI-generated.
  3. An animation shared with the unreleased Persona 4 Revival has some fans thinking it's legit.

A Persona 1 remake may have leaked. A YouTube account named 'P1REMAKE' posted a little under two minutes of footage from what appears to be a remake of the very first Persona game, and the clip quickly spread to Reddit and X.

Nothing here is official. Atlus hasn't announced a remake, and several outlets have urged caution given how easy it's become to fake footage with generative AI. Push Square said it's "incredibly difficult to ascertain whether this is legit or not."

Still, there are a few reasons people are taking it seriously. Steam News points out the clip is longer and more elaborate than AI-generated videos typically are.

The most interesting clue comes from the fights. Series fans noticed Eriko summoning her Persona with the exact same animation that Yukiko uses in Persona 4 Revival, according to Steam News. Revival doesn't launch until next year, so that pose showing up in a random fake would be an odd coincidence.

The footage itself looks rough and clearly in development, showing scenes from dungeons. Tatsuya, the protagonist of Persona 2 Innocent Sin, also seems to appear.

The series does have history here. In 2023, footage of what became Persona 3 Reload leaked in a similarly unfinished state before its reveal, and Polygon noted that Persona games "really do have a bad habit of leaking ahead of their reveals."

If it does turn out to be real, Rock Paper Shotgun's headline suggests you'd better not hate the color purple.

What we don’t know yet

  • Atlus hasn't confirmed or commented on the footage.
  • It isn't confirmed whether the clip is genuine or AI-generated.
  • No platforms or release window have been shared.
  • It's unclear why Tatsuya from Persona 2 Innocent Sin appears in the footage.
