The short version

  1. A Pirate Shop discovered in Fortnite unlocks the whole Item Shop for free for two weeks, per Push Square.
  2. Squad up and everyone on your team gets the reward too.
  3. Battle Royale topped five million concurrent players, enough to trigger a queue.

Fortnite's new Treasure Hunters mini-season has a Pirate Shop, and according to Push Square, finding it makes the entire Item Shop free for two weeks.

Yes, the entire Item Shop. Free.

It gets better if you play with friends. Push Square says that if you're running in a squad, everyone on your team gets the reward, so there's no need to argue over who gets to open the shop.

The pirate-themed season is live right now, and it comes with One Piece crossover content. That alone would bring plenty of people back to the island.

The crowds have been big enough that Fortnite had to put a queue in place. A Steam News report on the season said the rush wasn't just about One Piece, pointing to pirate ship tokens as part of the draw.

Push Square reports that Battle Royale topped five million concurrent players.

If you've been eyeing a skin but didn't want to spend V-Bucks on it, this looks like the window. Push Square didn't spell out exactly how to find the Pirate Shop or when the two-week clock starts, so if you're planning a shopping spree, jump in sooner rather than later.

What we don’t know yet

  • Exactly how players find and unlock the Pirate Shop hasn't been detailed.
  • When the two-week free period starts and ends hasn't been confirmed.
  • How the pirate ship tokens work hasn't been explained.
