The short version

  1. Version 2.0.0 adds Duel Mode and a new Super Slot.
  2. Duels are 1-on-1 races with a Duel Boost gauge, playable offline and online.
  3. Season Pass Two is live, with 6 premium DLC packs and 8 free updates planned.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has started its second year. The Ver. 2.0.0 update and Season Pass Two are out now, adding Duel Mode, the Super Slot and a long list of changes.

Duel Mode is the big new way to play. You take on another racer in a 1-on-1 showdown, and you can do it offline or online.

Duels also give you an extra trick called Duel Boost. Its gauge fills up over time and as you use items, and once it's full you can press the button to boost ahead. SEGA's notes hint that timing it well matters, which sounds like a fun way to steal a close race.

The patch notes also list missions, a shop, an expanded World Match experience, changes to Festivals and 15 new gadgets. On top of that there are competitive balance adjustments, gadget tweaks, separate gadget adjustments for Time Trial, and the usual bug fixes.

Heads up before you jump online. You have to update to the latest version to play online modes and access DLC.

The update is Ver. 2.0.0 everywhere: PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Steam and Epic.

The plan for the rest of Year Two is big. SEGA says it's dropping 6 premium DLC packs and 8 free updates throughout the year, and Nintendo Life reports that paid and free character updates are on the way. Push Square reports Godzilla DLC is arriving alongside the update.

The PlayStation Blog says Year Two brings more racers, vehicles and courses. SEGA hasn't said yet what's coming out of the garage next.

What we don’t know yet

  • SEGA hasn't shared a schedule for the 6 premium DLC packs and 8 free updates.
  • Which new racers and courses arrive later in Year Two hasn't been announced.
